Our Department
On behalf of the men and women of the St. John Metropolitan Police Department, welcome to our page. Our police officers and staff are dedicated law enforcement professionals who serve not only the citizens of the Town of St. John, but our visitors as well.
Our police department family is currently staffed by 27 full-time sworn officers and 1 reserve officer volunteer. We have two full-time civilian staff members and three part-time clerks. We have three divisions, Patrol, Investigations and Administration.
Under state law, we are a “metropolitan” police department, governed by a Board of Metropolitan Police Commissioners who are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the St. John Town Council. Our primary jurisdiction is the municipal boundaries of St. John, but as with all Indiana police officers, we have law enforcement authority anywhere in the State of Indiana.
We use a mixture of patrol vehicles to include SUVs and cars and we even have patrol bicycles and all terrain four-wheel off-road vehicles for special assignments. All of our patrol SUVs and cars are equipped with in-car camera systems and the uniformed officers who operate these vehicles are equipped with body worn cameras.

Our Mission
The Mission of the St. John Metropolitan Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our town by working in partnership with the community and in accordance with constitutional rights to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear, and provide for a safe environment.
Our Chief
I grew up in a law enforcement family, and even at an early age, I knew that one day I would become a police officer and leader in law enforcement just like my father was. In 2003, I attended and graduated from the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Class 03-09 and served as an officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. In 2004, I came to the St. John Police Department where I served as a patrol officer, K9 officer, detective, detective commander and eventually in 2020 was appointed to serve as Chief of Police. I also have fourteen years of experience as a volunteer firefighter and was the Assistant Fire Chief of the Lake Hills Fire Department. I am a graduate of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command and a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) National Command Course (NCC Class-05). My family and I are proud residents of St. John.
