Parks Department SAND VOLLEYBALL REFEREE

LOCATION: Heartland Park Sand Courts

SALARY: $12.60 AN HOUR 

The following job functions comprise a summary of job duties, requirements, and responsibilities for the  Sand Volleyball Referee position. This job description will serve as the primary document in the  selection and hiring process and constitutes the context for incumbent performance and evaluation. 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS 

This is a seasonal position running from June through early August on Sundays, Wednesdays, and  Thursdays for Adult and Youth Sand Volleyball leagues. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direct supervision of Director 

– Officiate sand volleyball matches using USA Beach Volleyball rules and St. John Parks modifications. – Maintain player safety, fairness, and sportsmanship

– Manage scoring, rotation, timeouts, and rule enforcement

– Conduct pre-game meetings and ensure proper court setup

– Handle disputes professionally; referee decisions are final

– Complete and sign official scoresheets

– Communicate clearly with coaches, players, and parents

– Report injuries, incidents, or concerns to the Recreation Director

– Assist with court cleanliness and equipment checks

– Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

REQUIREMENTS 

– Knowledge of volleyball rules (indoor or beach)

– Strong communication and conflict management skills

– Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

– Reliable and punctual

– Ability to pass a background check

– CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain
