EMPLOYMENT STATUS
This position is seasonal, consisting of 7 Weeks in June-August. The Camps runs on Monday-Thursday from 9am-12pm. Counselor Hours would be 8:30am-12:00pm each day. Afternoon camps will also be available for those that are able to work. Applicants must be available to work our July 2nd Freedom Fest Event.
Essential Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the director
- Act as a role model in your attitude and behavior, setting a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices such as sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship
- Lead and assist in regularly creating, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating safe, fun, and educational camp activities for all areas of camp appropriate for the different age groups
- Act as the primary caregiver for each of your campers, ensuring that campers are properly supervised at all times, including in small group environments and large, all-camp events. Be alert to the campers’ needs
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures as needed using appropriate behavior-management techniques
- Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being, and happiness of campers, be aware of any allergies and/or medications for all campers
- Prepare for, supervise, assist, and participate actively and eagerly in all aspects of the camper’s day
- Encourage a fun and imaginative learning environment by creating scenarios and scripts to enhance the experience of camp activities and events
- Keep the supervisor up-to-date on feedback, including concerns, updates, and challenges
- Create and keep civil relationships with fellow staff members
- Oversee, organize, clean and maintain park facilities; program property, equipment and materials as necessary
- Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, must be able to assist campers in an emergency
Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check
Experience working with youth of all age levels
The capacity to work as a team member
Outgoing with a sincere and energetic desire to have a quality and consistent experience with youth
Ability to teach and lead a variety of recreational activities
Ability to inspire and motivate others
Capacity to be flexible and improvise when needed
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with campers and staff
Problem-solving by analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action
Be sensitive to gender, age, cultural diversities, and disabilities
Current CPR, AED, and first aid certification or willingness to obtain
