General Purpose
The Town of St. John Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Seasonal Recreation Assistant to support various programs and events. This position offers hands-on experience in recreation programming, event coordination, and community engagement.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Town Manager. Reports to the Recreation Coordinator(s) on a daily basis.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with planning and organizing daily activities for the Summer Camp program.
- Assists in the day-to-day operations of programs at the Parks Buildings.
- Supports community events throughout the year, including but not limited to:
- Movies in the Park
- Concerts in the Park
- Freedom Fest
- Touch-a-Truck
- Sporting Events/Tournaments
- Boo Bash
- Fishing Derby
- Pup-a-Palooza
- Provides a welcoming and engaging environment for participants.
- Assists with event setup, coordination, and logistics as needed.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Enjoy working with children and families in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Availability for summer camp, evening, and weekend events as required.
- Ability to assist with event set up and general coordination.
- Positive attitude and interest in recreation and community programming.
Special Requirements
Valid State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
Tools and Equipment Used
Phone, personal computer, including word processing and licensing software; calculator, pencil, ruler, phone, copy and fax machine. Miscellaneous hand tools for the preparation of recreation programs and special events.

- Work is performed in office settings and outside in seasonal weather conditions as required by the recreational program or event. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand or sit; walk; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
